1 Key Diagram that Tells You All You Need to Know About Singapore Telecommunications Limited’s Massive Mobile Business
Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SGX: CC3) is the largest listed company in Singapore.
Singaporeans may be familiar with its mobile service. But Singtel’s empire stretches far beyond the Lion city’s shores. The telco’s latest annual report had one diagram in particular that captures its massive mobile network, and the markets that it serves in the region.

Singtel network extends to 638 million mobile customers in 22 countries. Over 70% of its earnings from operations comes beyond Singapore’s shores.
The telco owns a 49% market share for mobile in its home market, with 4.1 million subscribers. As impressive as it sounds, Singapore’s customer base pales in comparison with its associates. Singtel’s associate, Bharti Airtel, is the network with the most subscribers with 274 million subscribers in India, 2 million subscribers in South Asia and 80 million in Africa. Airtel’s network size gives it a 36.5% market share in India, making it the largest in India.
Elsewhere, Telkomsel (another Singtel associate) has a 35% market share in Indonesia with 169 million mobile customers. Telkomsel’s market share makes it the number one telco in Indonesia.
The next major associate is Philippine’s Globe with 59 million subscribers and a 48% market share. Interestingly, despite the market share, Globe is considered to be number two in the Philippines. Elsewhere, Singtel also has a stake in Thailand’s AIS. The telco is also number one in Thailand with 41 million mobile subscribers.
Last but not least, Singtel has full ownership of Optus in Australia. Optus is considered to be the number two telco behind Telstra with 9.1 million mobile subscribers.
