These 14 Numbers Demonstrate the Massive Scale of Sembcorp Industries Limited’s Marine Business Segment
Recently, Sembcorp Industries Limited (SGX: U96) released updated facts and figures about its operations in 2016.
Sembcorp Industries has three major segments, namely, Utilities, Marine, and Urban Development. From the facts and figures summary, we can learn more about the vast operations and scale of the company’s Marine segment, which comes from Sembcorp Industries’ majority-ownership stake in Sembcorp Marine Ltd (SGX: S51).
With that in mind, here’re 14 key figures about the segment that investors may want to sit up and take notice of:
1. Sembcorp Industries’ history in the marine engineering business stretches back over 50 years when it started with ship repair. Over the years, it has moved up to shipbuilding, rig building, and drillship manufacturing.
2. From a revenue standpoint, the Marine segment has three major parts. Rigs and floaters brought in $1.9 billion in revenue, which is 53% of the segment’s total top-line. Offshore platforms contributed $1.1 billion, or 32%, while repairs and upgrades make up the next 15% at $542 million.
3. The Marine segment has yard facilities in five countries, namely, Singapore, Indonesia, India, the United Kingdom, and Brazil. Singapore’s Tuas Boulevard Yard is the biggest at around 108 hectares. Another Singapore yard, the Admiralty yard, has an area of 87 hectares while Indonesia’s PT SMOE yard covers 85 hectares . Meanwhile, Brazil’s Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz yard is 82.5 hectares in size.
